About Advertising Late Payments

One of the major problems almost all of the advertising industry has or had is late payments. Google’s contextual advertising system AdSense is not exception to this. Many people who are new to the advertising system ask me if it’s to good to be true, “will I get paid”. And the answer is most definitely yes. However as to when the check will arrive, has become anyone’s guess. November’s 2003 payment was late, and now December 2003 is late. Some tips for determining when you will get paid.
1. The “Date Sent” field is really when the money has been transferred to be paid, it rarely if never is the real date the check is put into the mail system.
2. The people who write the checks take between 3 and 10 days to get the checks in the mail
3. For U.S. Mail it takes around 2 days to around 1 ½ weeks for delivery.
4. For international mail expect between 2 weeks to 1 + months depending on how remote your location is.

Another consideration is that the check usually takes around 2 to 5 days to clear, that is for bank accounts in the United States. That mean you will not have the available funds for the check for that amount of time. This also can vary when you are outside of the country. Some remote counties could take up to 1 to 2 months to cash your check and will also charge a decent fee for the transaction. You may want to check into using a bank in the United States like Citibank.

Finally the best practice is not to rely on contextual advertising or any advertising as your sole source of income, its just to unpredictable at this point.
